Nick Anastasakis is the creative force behind the indie rock band, The Afro Nick. Intrigued by his debut single, “Get There Before Noon (LA Mix),” which has received praise from numerous blogs and magazines, I felt compelled to watch the music video and learn more about it.
Hailing from the stunning island of Crete, the Greek artist later relocated to New York and now resides in Los Angeles. The filming style of the music video is truly distinctive and complements the music exceptionally well. It would be unjust to label Afro Nick merely as an indie rock group, as I can observe remarkable psychedelic, synth, and alternative elements that are skillfully crafted.
When discussing the music structure, it’s essential to emphasize the emotive and powerful vocals, the incredibly tight song structure and arrangement, as well as the impressive guitars and synth elements that create an iconic release. Upon exploring his press kit further, I realized he is not only a highly skilled and experienced musician but also a savvy one who knows how to select his bandmates wisely.
George Athanas, the bassist from his previous Greek band Stray Blue, along with Leo Genovese, the NYC-based synth player and Grammy Award winner, are key members. This is particularly significant since many newcomers today overlook the foundational aspects of their work, focusing solely on releasing new music. In my opinion, this attention to detail is what sets The Afro Nick apart as an exceptional rock band.
For the song “Get There Before Noon,” the central message is truly uplifting, focusing on seizing the moment and making the most of life while you can. Nick Anastasakis expresses his thoughts on the song’s message, stating, “You only have one life. You gotta do what you have to do and do it as soon as possible.”The powerful and meaningful message of this track is complemented by thick guitar riffs and electronic melodies, along with Nick’s deep, raspy voice, which enhances the song’s emotional depth. The concluding line, “and all you have to do is get there before noon,” encapsulates The Afro Nick’s sound – a hopeful, inspiring, and poignant outlook on life. [Quoted from his press kit]
Finally, my job allows me to listen to dozens of new tracks every day. Trust me when I say that The Afro Nick‘s output has been unmatched since the beginning of 2025. Moreover, believe me when I say this… we are witnessing the emergence of a new rock star! Cheers to that!
