From the moment the lush waves of distorted guitars reached my ears I knew that ‘Just For Today’ had a distinctive and confident personality. The Rumble Cat’s rowdy hardcore cut comes saturated with off-kilter tones, distinctive production cues, and ear catching songwriting.

The Rumble Cats are a Mexican band, a five-piece punk rock outfit whose sound is gritty, dynamic, and immensely vivid on their track ‘Just For Today’, part of their studio album called Television, and telling a part of the album’s narrative story. Written by the band’s frontman as soon as he heard the instrumental, inspired by the music’s hardcore aggression and melodic core, the song’s introspective lyrics play a large role in making the song feel like a personal and vulnerable journey we are witnessing from the front row seats.

Perhaps musically the hairy, distorted riffs, buoyant and grandiose chorused bass part, and manic drumming take the centerstage, with the valleys of reverberation giving each instrumental line a massive sense of space and presence. The vocals are readily soulful and full of power. Aggressive and screamed when it made most sense, the vocal part is heartfelt to say the least.

‘Just For Today’ is a melodic and textured bit of hardcore punk that introduced me to a talented ensemble. The Rumble Cats are a talented bunch that have easily won me over with their confidence and infectious power.
