With a sound that bridges the gap between classic rock from the late 60s, indie pop from the 80s, and the alternative swagger of the Strokes and Arctic Monkeys, Fringe Frontier’s next release is shaping up to be a gripping and genre-defying one through singles like ‘Livin’ not to Lose’.
A band based in Florida, Fringe Frontier’s sound is based on the historic trinity of guitar, bass, and drums. The overdriven riffs and rhythm as straight as the edge of a sword on ‘Livin’ not to Lose’ lend the song a rather delightful classic punk quality, also with the gritty and nasal vocals but the lightweight mix and introspective lyrics manage to land the song away from punk’s rebelliousness and into the relatable and welcoming arms of classic and indie rock.
Released in support of their upcoming album Songs from the Wirehouse, the music was mixed by Midlake’s drummer and 2x Grammy winner McKenzie Smith and mastered by Grammy nominee Kim Rosen. The song has an open-ended bunch of gritty and overdriven riffs that are easy to love and to rock to and are working rather nicely on top of the straightforward beat and bouncy bass line, and beneath the nasal, double-tracked vocals for an experience that’s very well-balanced.
‘Livin’ not to Lose’ is an enjoyable song that’s easy on the ears. Beautifully mixed and mastered, the song originally has an addictive flow and is very solidly written from the get-go. Songs from the Wirehouse is shaping up to be an album to anticipate.
