HAPPY VALLEY, SOUTH AUSTRALIA — Rock recluse, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Lyndo Jaco steps out of his home studio with 3 — a story-driven rock EP that puts structured songwriting and a warmer, more distinct sound at the centre of everything. A bit of guitar here. Some bass there. Drums underneath it all. Vocals on top. And three songs that each tell a story in their own vivid, slightly left-of-centre way.

This is rock music made the way it should be — one person, a collection of instruments, a home studio overlooking the garden in Happy Valley, and a genuine need to say something. No clutter. No compromise. Just the songs.

“The sound is quite different to your earlier work — more considered, measured and, to my ears, less cluttered.”

3 brings together three distinct characters and three distinct emotional worlds, each one rooted in the kind of storytelling that Southern and classic hard rock have always done best — grounded, vivid, and told from the inside out.

One track channels the feeling of supporting a sporting team through the rough patches and holding out for that winning moment — loyalty and stubbornness set to rock.

Another follows a man desperate for money and the bungling, tragicomic journey he takes trying to get it — a character study with enough dark humour to make you wince and grin at the same time.

The third takes a trippy, sideways view of life itself — looking at the whole thing as if it were set in a sandpit, with all the strange clarity that distance sometimes brings.

Recorded entirely in Lyndo Jaco‘s home studio with new bass and guitar amplifiers that give the recording a more distinct and defined tone, 3 sounds warmer and more purposeful than anything he has made before. The songwriting is tighter. The arrangements breathe more. The production lets the stories land.
