This acoustic rock jewel is defined by its quite efficient groove, melancholy-tinged harmony and melodies, warm, acoustic mix, abed most importantly, a fantastic bass part played by Alex Basov himself, a bass virtuoso.
The touching melodies on ‘Malika’ are tightly crafted and the song’s structure is very engaging, with cyclic and easy to follow melodies. The terrific bass part lends the song a considerable progressive flair. A true virtuoso, the bass adds a whole new and exciting dimension to this cut, elevating it from the realm of acoustic pop to something progressive, exhilarating, and quite engaging.
Alexander Basov is a gifted composer. His sensibilities on ‘Malika’ are soft and emotive. His gentle vocals and heartfelt acoustic guitar delivery make for a warm and richly colored listen that I found myself repeating over and over again.
