David Cloyd returns with a new release after a long hiatus. The latest single, Ocean Of Hours, is a brilliant and anthemic Alt Rock/Soft Rock single which is guaranteed to stay in your head for days after you first hear it. The single is taken off of Cloyd’s forthcoming album, Red Sky Warning, which is set to release in early 2025.
The song begins with the sound of a clock ticking, and the drums banging powerfully representing the passage of time. David Cloyd’s powerful vocals shortly join, and by the time we reach the hook/chorus we get to a guitar chord progression very similar to the ticking clock sound…subtle yet beautiful details which make it easier to connect and relate to the song.
The second verse shows some strings and some more of David’s voice which has an undeniable David Bowie influence on them. A long bridge section begins after the second chorus, and the ticking clock sounds brings us to a new section similar to the verse/intro. The unconventional song structure coupled with the soaring vocals and world class guitar work made this section the cherry on top for me.
In the final hook and outro of the song, David’s voice keeps ascending in what feels like an endless vocal range and he somehow sustains all his breath and power, putting the listener in a state of trance. It would be unfair to compare him to any of today’s artists from the same genre. If you ever wondered what a collaboration between David Bowie and Sting would sound like, then Ocean Of Hours is the song for you. A dreamy and serene anthem full of memorable sections and relatable lyrics to relieve your heavy heart on a dark day. I absolutely love this tune.
