The vibrant spirit of the ’90s is alive in the Brighton-based band, Giant Killers. Today, let’s delve into their history while highlighting their single “One for Georgie” from last year’s album, Songs for the Small Places.

“One for Georgie” is an energetic rock anthem that radiates positivity. I truly appreciate the emotive and powerful vocals, paired with a tight rhythm. The beats are crisp, complemented by stunning lead guitar riffs. To top it all off, the brass section adds an amazing layer to the overall sound.

“One For Georgie” reflects on the transient nature of greatness through the lens of George Best, the iconic Manchester Utd player who passed away two decades ago. The song serves as a tribute to the qualities needed for excellence while cautioning against idolizing greatness, as heroes can disappoint. When MCA considered the song as a single, the band met Best and his son Callum, leading to a memorable night with Noddy Holder of Slade, who agreed to contribute vocals. Unfortunately, MCA and Giant Killers soon parted ways, impacting the course of music history.

Lately, I’ve observed numerous bands attempting to blend the golden era with contemporary styles. However, there’s something truly distinct about listening to a band from the iconic ’90s that brings a modern flair. Giant Killers is one such band that I eagerly anticipate hearing new releases from, as they embody the spirit of the golden era. Cheers to that!
