Life rarely unfolds in neat chapters, and neither does Scenes from a Well Worn Path – Side One. On his debut release, Banbury-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Music by Jeremy transforms years of observations, questions, and lived experiences into a collection of songs that move fluidly between introspection and optimism. Each track contributes another piece to a larger mosaic, inviting listeners to reflect on the moments, people, and experiences that shape a life.
Rather than settling into a single musical identity, the album embraces a broad sonic palette. Acoustic folk, contemporary pop, soul, blues, post-punk, synth-pop, and gospel coexist naturally, with each stylistic shift serving the stories at the heart of the record. Despite its diversity, the album remains cohesive through Jeremy’s thoughtful lyricism, emotional directness, and carefully crafted songwriting. Drawing inspiration from songwriters and artists including John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Randy Newman, Nick Drake, Paul Simon, and David Bowie, he brings a classic storytelling sensibility into his own distinctive musical world.
The lead single, “Be Me,” immediately establishes one of the album’s central themes. Driven by an infectious indie-pop energy, the track explores the quiet exhaustion of molding yourself to meet the expectations of others, offering a reminder of the freedom, and courage, that comes with embracing authenticity. With its direct melody and sharp lyricism, it provides an immediate entry point into the world of Scenes from a Well Worn Path – Side One, setting the tone for an album interested in the gap between how we present ourselves and what we actually carry.
As the album unfolds, it continues to weave together deeply personal reflections with broader observations about the world. Themes of grief, identity, morality, change, human connection, nostalgia, and political commentary sit alongside unexpected moments of curiosity, from Keynesian economics to plastic-eating bacteria. Underpinning it all is Jeremy’s philosophy of “joyous realism”: meeting life’s difficult truths with honesty while leaving room for resilience, humour, wonder, and hope.
Jeremy writes with an understated confidence, allowing emotions to emerge organically rather than overwhelming the listener. Whether contemplating personal transformation, moral failure, human connection, or the passage of time, the songs invite listeners to find pieces of their own stories within them. The title itself reflects this perspective: the album is, in Jeremy’s words, a collection of scenes from a very fulfilled life. Even when the path turns towards difficult or uncomfortable places, there is a sense that the journey itself has been worth walking.
That authenticity extends to the production. Recorded entirely independently in a home studio, the project combines live instrumentation with AI-assisted technology trained on Jeremy’s own voice. Playing the guitars and fretless bass himself, Jeremy used generative AI as a practical extension of his creative reach, allowing him to build the musical world he had originally imagined. Rather than functioning as a novelty, the technology quietly supports the music, enabling the songs, and the stories behind them, to take centre stage. The result is an unusual but deeply personal recording process in which technology becomes an instrument in service of human expression.
Scenes from a Well Worn Path – Side One arrives on 25 August 2026, opening a four-sided, 24-track double album that will unfold between August and November. As the first instalment of a larger musical journey, Music by Jeremy delivers a debut rich in emotional honesty, thoughtful songwriting, and stylistic versatility; a record that feels lived-in, intelligent, and unafraid to speak plainly. More than an introduction, Scenes from a Well Worn Path – Side One is an invitation to pause, look back, and continue walking the well-worn path alongside Music by Jeremy!
