DALLAS, TEXAS — In today’s world, there is a lot of depression and problems. Which is exactly why Sheldon Mashugana exists.
The comedic alter ego of Dallas-based performer and filmmaker Dean Morgan — and the goofy, feel-good persona behind 18 slapstick comedy films on YouTube — steps into Halloween season with a cover of Bobby Pickett’s iconic 1962 classic, “Monster Mash,” out September 18, 2026. It is fun, it is familiar, and it has the word Mashugana woven right into the chorus where it belongs.
“In today’s world there is a lot of depression and problems. Sheldon Mashugana makes things a lot nicer and happy feeling.” — Dean Morgan

“Monster Mash” has been a Halloween staple since Bobby Pickett first unleashed it on the world more than six decades ago. It was only a matter of time before Sheldon Mashugana got hold of it.
The cover was recorded at Justin Pierce Music Studio in Dallas — Sheldon’s creative home base, where producer Justin Pierce handles recording and mixing duties — using a karaoke backing track rather than live instruments, giving the whole thing an appropriately DIY, anything-goes energy that suits the character perfectly. Morgan had long admired the original and always felt it was the right song for Sheldon — Halloween, absurdity, audience participation, a chorus everyone knows. All it needed was Mashugana dropped into the middle of it.
Finding the vocal approach took a little figuring out — the pacing of the song is trickier than it sounds — but once Morgan cracked it, the rest came naturally. The result is a cover that delivers exactly what it promises: fun, familiarity, and a reason to smile during the spooky season.
