Sonic Dopamine are a trio that have built an impressive momentum since their debut in early 2023. Comprised of guitarist and frontman Jonathan Wolle, Michael ‘Batman’ Castelli on bass and Gavin Chinchar on the drums, they’re on a mission to blend noisy rock ‘n’ roll with a contemporary spark.

Their new single ‘Looks Betray’, arrives as the first release after album number two, This Was Now, and shares with their audience a commanding, cohesive direction.

‘Looks Betray’ brings a huge guitar, grooving bass and forward-moving drums to the instrumentation, the three elements bubbling with excitement and ringing out beneath the vocal.

The vocal itself is a pure slice of alt-rock, helped into infectiousness with an earworm chorus. Emotions of torment and frustration light up the lyricism, riding the line between a glitter-tinged anthem and a gritty alt-rock stadium filler.

The frontman explains, “This is the kind of music I’ve always wanted to make. The song came together surprisingly quickly and I feel like it’s the first time we’ve had a consistent sound. The lyrics are more honest than ever, and Castelli’s harmonies are so good I still can’t believe he joined the band!”
