A truly manic sense of sophistication exudes from Sean MacLeod’s latest single ‘Take Control (Don’t Let ‘Em)’. A shoegaze-inspired piece of brit pop with serious affinities towards garage rock lo-fi-ness and alternative rock’s otherworldlyness, ‘Take Control..’ is a sound that lingers far longer than its shy run time.

An Irish singer and songwriter, a former and founding member of Irish band Cisco, Sean MacLeod is not a beginner in what he does, and just taking in the first few bars of his latest single is enough to prove it. Released as the fourth single from his latest and 5th solo album ‘That’s When the Earth Becomes a Star’, ‘Take Control..’ opens the album with a hard hitting groove and a saturated mix that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

‘Take Control (Don’t Let ‘Em)’ is a song that’s built around Sean MacLeod’s worn down melodies and his textural delivery of the words, buried deep inside the mix on purpose to create a space for the remainder of the modulated and compressed instrumental parts to take. The shimmering chorus on the jangly rhythm guitar, the massive-scale bass line, and the battering, timeless beat all seem to happen around the stellar, spacey chord sequence, infinitely immersive and effortlessly memorable. MacLeod’s melodies complement it also rather well, delivering a rather non-linear part that goes very well alongside the interesting song structure.

‘Take Control (Don’t Let Em)’ continues to promise a very exciting, experimental, and bold album from Sean MacLeod.
