Brooklyn-based songwriter Nathaniel Paul is one of our favourites for his original output, which is flavoured with marvellous vintage elements. His latest, “The Girl with No Tattoo,” was released last month. Let’s discover more below.
As stated in the press kit, the song draws inspiration from his wife, “who, in an era where tattoos are everywhere, distinguishes herself by being tattoo-free.” Additionally, “The Girl with No Tattoo” serves as a poignant and refreshing anthem that defies societal norms and honors individuality. “Tattoos have become so widespread that not having one feels unique in itself. Branding has become part of our skin, but now, it seems like having no tattoo is a defining choice. I wanted to celebrate that uniqueness.” – Nathaniel explained.
The music here is truly remarkable. Nathaniel’s emotive vocals, the harmonious melody, and the beautiful vintage guitar tone, combined with a tight rhythm, all contribute to an extraordinary sound that seamlessly blends modern and classic elements. While I thoroughly enjoyed the music, I believe the real strength lies in the song’s theme. In my opinion, people tend to lose their true identities and adopt inauthentic ones through tattoos! Additionally, I greatly value Nathaniel’s viewpoint on tattoos, and I would like to quote him.“Altering your body has become so prolific, so I think it’s really important to be confident in who you are. You are beautiful – just by simply being you – tattoo or not.” Nathaniel added. “You don’t have to change or alter yourself just so people will like you” he concludes.
