Modules have been at this for a decade now, formed in San Juan back in 2015 and building toward this year’s tenth anniversary with a sound that pulls from Volumes, Erra, Killswitch Engage, and Northlane. The band’s name comes from the idea of independent parts combining into something bigger, which tracks with a five-piece lineup: Kelvin “Gato” Rodriguez on vocals, Omar Garcia and Alberic Nieves on guitars, Hilton Cummings on bass, Nicholas Cruz on drums; that’s clearly built around genuine chemistry rather than one dominant voice. “We Won’t Break” is the latest evidence of that, and it’s a genuinely strong showcase of what a decade of playing together sounds like.
The production value here is crisp, and the power behind the aggressive sections is relentless without ever tipping into noise. There’s real detail in how the harmony is layered, colorful parts stacking on top of each other until they read as a single wave of sound rather than a pile of competing ideas, which is harder to pull off than bands make it look. What stands out most, though, is how the song moves. Metalcore transitions can lean on the same handful of tricks- the breakdown cue, the clean-to-scream flip- but Modules avoid the obvious version of each of those moves. Nothing here feels unfamiliar in the broader genre sense, but the way the band gets from section to section keeps surprising in small ways, never predictable enough to let attention slip.
That kind of songwriting discipline lines up with a band that’s already been recognized on a bigger stage, landing as a top-five finisher at the Wacken Metal Battle Caribbean in 2025 and following it with a run of East Coast US tour dates. “We Won’t Break” plays like a band hitting its stride at exactly the right moment in its own timeline, and it’s easy to hear why rooms keep filling up for them.
