As she’s working on her debut EP, the Dublin-based indie folk artist Molly Buchan dropped her single When I Ache on the 6th of December 2022 via boutique indie label Pop Cautious Records. Directed by Buchan‘s band member Eadaoin O’Shea Costley, Buchan released the music video reflecting the lyrics’ melancholic idea, adding another layer to its heart-hitting nature.

Opening When I Ache with warm arpeggios and soothing vocals, Molly Buchan promises a mellow relaxing tune to come. It has a dreamy atmospheric sound with a bittersweet chill flow and catchy emotional melodies that were cleverly arranged and mixed with subtle vocal harmonies, offering a deeply touching bright sound that smoothly escalates and gets bigger as the song progresses leading to a smoothly fading outro. When I Ache is what I like to call a mood-shifting tune, as its open sound and easy-going flow softly carry the listeners through its subtle movements, keeping them entertained while creating a beautifully relaxing mood that builds an unbreakable bond between them and the artist.

When I Ache shows Molly Buchan‘s mature writing skills, organic arrangements, and undeniably captivating vocals. She managed to deliver a laidback heartfelt sound filled with moving emotions within a well-adjusted dynamic structure. I’ll be looking forward to more from Molly Buchan, keep on rocking. Cheers!
