Inventive, inquisitive, and endlessly memorable, Nick Boeder’s latest single is a gorgeous achievement that I found myself returning to over and over again.
‘Your Shadowed Doubts’ is a song that showcases a rare confidence from a one of a kind songwriter. Nick Boeder’s musical journey is truly special. A career social worker, Boeder picked up the guitar, taught himself, and found a passion in writing songs at the age of 25. Relatively late, but for him, it was the perfect time. With enough maturity, Boeder’s songs are captivating. His quirky lyricism and his low-effort singing drill their way into the listener’s head with exceptional ease. Boeder wrote ‘Your Shadowed Doubts’ in 2019, shortly after settling in Boulder, Colorado, and recently recorded at the guidance of producer Chris Beeble, whose peppy arrangement transformed this 2-chord song into something unforgettable.

Rhythmic, unique, and effortless, there is the essence of ‘Harlem River’ in this release, but less lo-fi. Creative electric guitar riffs layered beneath Boeder’s main vocal, and nestled between a chirpy female voice and a battering drum and bass part, the rather straightforward arrangement is elevated via the sheer simplicity and elegance of the song and words that are unfolding. As the arrangement gains more traction throughout the song, Boeder’s confident vocals remain a consistent, cool cornerstone, and his familiar, soothing melodies a thing to anchor a song that gets rather hectic near the end.
‘Your Shadowed Doubts’ is sheer beauty and elegance. A true indie gem that got my compass geared towards Nick Boeder’s beautifully strange musical creations.
