OpCritical is back with “Act Up,” which the band says is its eighth single and music video of 2026. It follows “Guillotine,” the third part of its trilogy about oligarchic excess, but this one turns away from the historical imagery and aims straight at the listener: stop being a spectator. The band formed in 2026 and keeps its members out of the spotlight, saying the members are not important and the message is. It describes itself as a voice for decency, tolerance, honesty, and the rule of law, and says it will keep releasing music and videos for as long as it feels that is necessary. Musically, the band says it mixes the energy of punk and rock with alternative rock, and it released the song on October 16th.

This installment targets the average Joe, the person who consumes all the atrocities of the world as simply as they consume saturated food, without taking any action, simply bystanders in a dying world. The song pushes the audience to make them feel bad about their refusal to participate and them being lazy and that way in does so by musically alternating between hauntingly dark and cheerfully energetic music is an interesting psychedelic take on this

The video makes the point literally: a man eats and watches TV on his couch, falls asleep, and his house catches fire around him. That fits the band’s stated plan to keep putting out songs and videos aimed at what it calls apathy, indifference, and injustice. Those are the band’s own politics, and listeners will take them or leave them, but eight singles into the year, it is clear OpCritical is committed to the long haul.
