It’s Doctor are a London and Brighton trio built around Welsh singer-songwriter and bassist Doctor G, with Doctor P on guitar and Doctor M on drums. They have been recording together in various lineups for over ten years, and on October 9th they released “Rash Vest” through Danger Records. The song draws on the unlikely true story of a lost rash vest and the sunburn that followed, an offbeat subject for a band that mixes darker themes with a playful sense of humor. It follows their fifth album, Darkness In Me, released September 16th and recorded at Berry Sound Studios in Walthamstow with producer Sean Berry. The press materials compare them to Weezer, Pixies, and Talking Heads.

I think it’s safe to assume this band loves the 70s music, and after checking my notes yes, I’m right actually. This is that very blues-influenced rock in how the phrases and rhythms interact; it’s incredible. The band wears their influences on their sleeves, but they do have a unique sound because of their chemistry. The main motif or riff is very addictive; I found myself humming it the rest of the day. It works perfectly in the context of the song.

For the record, Doctor M’s bio lists Pink Floyd, The Doors, The Band and Neil Young among his influences, with Ginger Baker, John Bonham and Keith Moon as his drumming heroes. The band has live dates coming up at The Phoenix in London on November 13th and The Fiddler’s Elbow in Camden on December 4th, and says new material is already in development as it looks to build on its growing profile through 2027.
