“Complicated” was co-written by British songwriter and producer Frankmusik, whose extensive writing and production credits include work with Lady Gaga, Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, Ellie Goulding, and RuPaul. To achieve its specific sound, the production bypassed modern digital processes. The single was recorded using live instruments and routed through vintage analog equipment to capture a natural, lived-in tone that complements the track’s raw lead vocals.
