Orlando, Florida’s Jordan Seven brings an ageless lyrical soul and wisdom to a genre replete with superficiality and nihilism. Armed with his molotov cocktail of a voice, brimming with passion, and his searing, focused guitar playing, he conveys a fully integrated vision and presents us with a seamless and satisfying fusion of Indie and Classic Rock on his immersive and engaging new album, “7”.
It is immediately apparent that Jordan Seven’s songwriting approach is pervaded by an uinusual depth of character and understanding, and a genuine care for the potential in all of us. His ability to convey themes of resilience, forgiveness, redemption and gratitude, in the wake of his own personal misfortune, is a testament to his artistic maturity and his potential as a herald for what most of us feel. Jordan, or “7” as he is known, communicates genuine emotion and vulnerability, and his music is a rallying cry for both himself and the listener alike. And it is fun. There is no preaching. It is full out rock and roll with depth.
7’s slightly operatic vibrato and impassioned vocal delivery echo modern indie rock acts like Rival Sons and My Morning Jacket, while bowing to classic and hard rock artists like Led Zeppelin, David Bowie and Cheap Trick, particular favorites of his. There is mythos and a depth of honor in his music, but most of all it is an earnest ride through the far perimeters of the Universal mind.
A longtime veteran of the cover band circuit, it was the isolation and quietude of the pandemic that sparked the original songs leading to 7’s self-titled debut album. And that album, from start to finish, is a worthy testament to his resilience and tough, hopeful spirit. Tracks like “Zephyr Girl,” and “Solid Ground” blend poignant, often melancholic lyrics, with driving riffs and catchy hooks. And the album showcases his versatility as he sings and plays all instruments except for drums, performed by friend and collaborator Chris Moore, a seasoned touring drummer.
After significant tragedies and setbacks in life, 7 is battle-worn yet exudes impassioned hope and a lightness of spirit that is both striking and remarkable. The ability to convey groundedness in the face of adversity could be 7’s greatest artistic gift, and his greatest gift to share. And, most importantly, he loves to play a rousing rock show.
“I feel that many people yearn for more engaging and thoughtful music. I try to write songs that are catchy and enjoyable, but which offer something more meaningful for those who want to delve deeper.
People can get caught up in their fears and frustrations, and lose sight of the precious things that make life worth living. My songs are a gentle reminder to stay connected to what truly matters.
No matter what your system of beliefs, it’s crucial to find a foundation that motivates you to strive for your higher nature.”
“Walking deserted streets during the pandemic with my late dog, “Honor”, helped me find the authentic voice that I had been searching for as a musician. His resolute, forward motion during those somber nights helped inspire me to create a heartfelt album of songs about perseverance, and finding beauty and hope in the face of life’s challenges.”
