With its deep pocket and propelling groove, ‘People of the Snake’ is an infectious new single by The Northern Light. A single that showcases an adventurous musical character, ‘People of the Snake’ is an immensely enjoyable piece of alternative rock.

Based in Seattle, Washington, The Northern Light are a three-piece alternative and indie rock act led by singer, songwriter, and guitarist David Pollon, accompanied by Carl Larsson and Kip Rondorf on bass and drums, respectively. The sound the trio are bringing on ‘People of the Snake’ is rich with detail, in spite of its gorgeously streamlined and efficient mix. A powerful drive pushes the song forward with an exquisite sense of confidence.

Driven by a solid, steady, yet playful drum performance by Rondorf and a throbbing bass part by Larsson that drives home the song’s immensely deep-pocketed groove, ‘People of the Snake’ then introduces vast spaces for Pollon’s intricate guitar work, his storytelling and lyrical prowess, and his amiable and gripping delivery to shine, and shine they do. His guitar work in particular is colorful and melodic, with a fiery solo to showcase his immense control of the instrument, alongside an already intricate set of melodic riffs that blare through the song. The Hammond organ accompaniment, and the song’s wonderfully lush mix are the two cherries on top of this really delicious cake.

‘People of the Snake’ is a driving, dynamic, melodic, and lyrically gripping song about a resistance story that occurred on the Oregon Trail in the 1860s. With a fantastic array of deliveries, The Northern Light are extremely catchy on their latest release.
