The Dream Spiral can be a bit confusing at first, but they are a truly fascinating concept that’s a little intimidating. See, they are like a wing.. of the Brisbane Music Collective, who are a group of 5 musicians who release music under different names for different genres. I don’t know how many aliases they have, but as a musician who stereotypically takes an excruciatingly long time to finish my songs, the fact that they do this is making me a little jealous.
‘Redemption’ is the first single from the band’s upcoming album, the band being The Dream Spiral, the rock/alternative wing of the collective which is based in -yes, you guessed it- Brisbane, Australia. ‘Redemption’ is a heavy cut that features heavily compressed beats, distorted riffs, and a general feel of impending danger. A constant chase, the start-stop riffs, thick, overdriven bass tone, or the funky, syncopated rhythm guitar chugs that actually sound like knives getting sharpened against one another, ‘Redemption’ is heavy and trudges like a sure-footed musical bully. Confident, brash, and a little scary.
The song’s minimal composition leaves room for a ton of character to be induced via the nuances in the performances and the production, and the end result is a song that’s loaded with identity and indeed, a ton of said character. ‘Redemption’ got my blood flowing and got me ready for more from The Dream Spiral.
