With “Storm in My Life,” Amanda Emblem steers her musical ship straight into the eye of romantic turbulence, though instead of wreckage, we’re left with a foot-tapping, harmonica-laced breeze of blues-folk sunshine. Out July 25 via Wild Weather Records, the single is the first glimpse into Amanda’s upcoming album The Wood, and it’s as catchy as it is cleverly written!
Don’t be fooled by the song’s light-hearted exterior: beneath its bouncy acoustic lines and slide guitar shimmer lies a surprisingly layered metaphor about the thrill and chaos of love, drawn against the backdrop of real-life Australian storms. Amanda’s nimble fingerpicking, developed during lockdown, shines throughout, anchoring the track with rootsy grit and flair. Her vocals? Playful, confident, and just the right dose of sly sincerity.

The band is in top form: Kelly King’s flute and harmonica interplay add sparkle, while Billy Adams (drums) and Scott Astill (bass/guitar) round things out with solid grooves and harmony-rich backup vocals. Together, they bring to life a sound that’s unmistakably Australian, yet universally resonant.
Amanda Emblem isn’t new to the scene, her résumé includes international touring, high-profile support slots, awards, and even entertaining troops overseas. But Storm in My Life feels like a fresh chapter: unpretentious, witty, and irresistibly listenable.
Catch Amanda and her band live across Queensland this August and September, and keep an ear out for The Wood; if this first single is any indication, the forecast calls for heartfelt storytelling with the occasional glorious downpour.
