Lately, I’ve been discovering some fantastic new bands from England, particularly in London, focusing on alternative punk and post-punk genres. One such band, Barking Poets, was featured previously in Rock Era, and they’re back with their innovative and impressive new single, Losing Contact. Let’s explore more about it below.

Although the music clearly embodies the essence of the ‘90s, it also incorporates modern influences. I was particularly impressed by the powerful vocals, which harmonise beautifully with the tight rhythm, especially as it aligns perfectly with the song’s foundation of bass and drums. The track runs for about 5:50 minutes, and from the third minute onward, it transports you to an entirely innovative musical realm. I appreciated how the guitar solo was crafted over the bass and drums structure, enhanced by backing vocals that create an epic outro. It’s evident that the main melody serves as the heart of the track; it’s the driving force upon which everything is built. This songwriting approach was quite popular three decades ago. Unfortunately, many new bands today invest heavily in gear and digital equipment, often losing sight of the fundamental concept… music!

In conclusion, I want to emphasise the exceptional production quality. As I listened, I was truly impressed by the final result, and upon reviewing the press kit, I understood why it stands out. The renowned U.K. rock and indie producer, Paul Tipler, is behind this release, notable for his collaborations with Idlewild, Placebo, and Reuben. The recording took place last summer at Unit 13 studios in London. Bravo and thank you, Barking Poets, for reminding us that remarkable music is still very much alive.
